Water Colored Flowers

One of my favorite ways to use Distress Oxide inks is for creating water color backgrounds. I swipe some ink on a craft mat, spritz it with water, and swipe my paper through it (I use mixed media paper for this). I dry it with a heat tool, swipe through some more ink, sometimes adding a second or third color, and repeat until I have the look I want.

Besides using these pieces as backgrounds, they are also ideal for cutting out die cuts. You can see the variation in color and get a true water color look. That’s what I did to create the flowers on this card.

The other technique I did on this card was to use some inlaid die cuts. Instead of just gluing the pieces on the cardstock I cut some of the flowers and leaves right from the base. I then used the same kind of pieces that were cut out from the backgrounds to place in them the negative space, creating the look of just one layer. The additional pieces on top then create a lot of dimension.
