Small Pieces

Hello! It’s time to share a clean and simple card for the new challenge at Always Fun Challenges (#198) This week our theme is “One Layer.” If you would like to join in we’d love to have you link up your card by Saturday, 1/31!

My card really couldn’t be more simple. I first stamped the sentiment with black Versafine ink, then heat embossed it with clear powder. This gives it a little shine and dimension. The technique I used to keep it one layer was to use the die cut not to cut, but only to emboss. I placed it over the sentiment and ran it through my die cutting machine with an embossing pad under it, this makes an impression from the cut lines, but doesn’t actually cut.

I chose the theme of my card, “Unite,” from the challenge over at CASology (#583)

I would also like to join in the CAS Challenge at Krafty Chicks (#543) and at Stamplorations CAS Challenge.

Finally, for this card I would like to join the challenge at AAA Cards #182, asking for a one layer card.

I really liked the idea and simple look of my first card, but also thought I could change it up a little by not keeping it one layer. For my second card I chose my colors from the challenge at Color My Heart Color Dare #427 which is a tic-tac-toe board. I chose the right column – smoothie, glacier, and sage.

For this card I first cut the two top layers. For the smoothie/pink layer I distressed the edges and added some glitter around it. On the top glacier/blue layer I die cut the heart, then ran the full piece through the die cut machine with a cover die plate, but again only embossed with it. (It would have cut out the tiny hearts normally.) I then repeated the same process as I did on the first card on white to create the heart with the sentiment, die cut it, and then inlaid it into the blue layer. You can see a close up of all this below!

I would like to add this card to these additional challenges:

Dies R Us #161 – Anything goes with dies (the heart die I used is from Technique Tuesday)

Little Red Wagon #585 – Die-ing to get crafty! (use dies on your creation)

Finally, I have one more thing to share – and that is that an exciting new challenge has just started, please check it out! (click here or the image below)
