Good Luck Shamrocks

Welcome! Today’s card was inspired by the challenges at Always Fun (#203) – with a theme of “Good Luck” and Make the Cards (#6) – with a sketch challenge this week. I was also planning to make some cards for St. Patrick’s Day so that’s what made me get out my shamrock punch and green ink! If you would like to play along in either (or both!) of these challenges, they both run for one week.

I will start by saying that I am have not done much creating in the mixed media style, but decided to just give it a try and see what I ended up with. I began by “smooshing” some distress oxide inks on a piece of water color paper. I added some texture stamping, and heat embossed some of it with clear powder. Next I used a little bit of tacky glue to smooth some gold gilding flakes over. That was enough to finish off the background.

Next I colored and cut out the horseshoes from a larger stamp, then punched some shamrocks on paper I had previously stamped, heat embossed, and some I created with more distress oxide inks. Some of them I distressed the edges with so they would show up more.

Following the sketch I arranged all my pieces, and finally added the gold heat embossed sentiment. There were a couple of places that seemed kind of empty so I finished it off with a few rhinestones.

I am on the fence with how this turned out, and I never dreamed one card could require so much stuff and create such a mess! It was kind of fun to try something new though!

I would like to join in these additional challenges:

Sweet Stampin’ – Shabby Chic/Distressed

Crafting Happiness #86 – anything goes + Option “green”

Crafty Catz #540 – anything goes

Creative Knockouts #390– anything goes
