Make the Cards Sketch Challenge

Today I have a card to share with you that I made as inspiration for the challenge starting at Make the Cards Challenge (#11). This week we have a sketch challenge. If you would like to play along you are free to use any stamps, dies, or products you have, as well as any theme you want, but just be sure that the sketch is represented on your card or project. Please visit the challenge site for all the details!

This card did not come easily for me! I used a new image from Reverse Confetti. I thought it was shaped just right for the sketch. I also saw the challenge at Inspired By Challenges (photo below) and thought of the oranges. I colored it with Copic markers and then fussy cut it out.

The problem came when I was trying to come up with the lines shown on the sketch. First I tried die cut frames, I didn’t like that. Then I tried cutting some really skinny strips and making my own frames like on the sketch. That didn’t look right either. Next I tried cutting some shapes similar to those on the sketch, it was much harder than I thought. I kept trying to get the right size and had to keep trimming and trimming, eventually the oranges were bigger than the background shapes! My next and last idea (whether I liked it or not) was to use some gold cord to mimic the shapes on the sketch. With some careful placement of tape and foam squares to hold it in place I finally was able to get a result I could live with! I added some gold sequins to finish it off.

I would like to join in these additional challenges:

Creative Knockouts #395 – sparkle and shine
